A Maxi Skirt is a wardrobe staple and a versatile piece that can be worn in many ways. But being petite (I am only 5’2), I had always been intimidated to wear Maxi Skirts. I thought they would overpower my frame and make me look larger than I am. But through trial and error, I have learnt that by using a few styling tricks it’s easy to play with your proportions. So if you are petite like me, just tuck your Top into your Skirt and add a Belt to cinch your waist (it will totally change the proportions and create an hourglass silhouette).
So back to styling Maxi Skirts, I found the most perfect Maxi Skirt at http://www.modeSTYLE.com. A few things that I loved about this particular skirt were the colour, the silhouette (it’s a high-low skirt) and the light flowy material. And to show you the versatility of the skirt, I styled it in two completely different ways, but made sure that the focus of the look was on the skirt.
This first look is perfect for date night, I paired the Khaki Skirt with a Pastel Pink Top, both colours work so well together. For the accessories, I added a Metallic Belt and a similar toned bracelet to the look and Mauve coloured shoes.
Another way to wear the skirt more casually is with a Denim Top (Khaki and Denim are always a good combination). For this look I wore a Black Belt with Gold Detailing and Black Mule Shoes. This was a casual look so I didn’t want to go overboard with the accessories.
I hope this illustrates that it’s the little details that can change your look and make your wardrobe pieces more versatile. So make sure you are making the most out of your wardrobe and if you need any styling advice, do email me.
